Cupcakes. I'll say it again - cupcakes. Simply reading the word should make you think of delicious, frosting topped, sweet smelling, fist sized cakes of all flavors and colors. In fact they also make the perfect snack for anyone to enjoy at anytime for any reason! Still not convinced that cupcakes are the greatest thing to come from the kitchen since regular cake? A Brief History of the Greatest Thing Ever
At what point in our history did the species of cupcake deviate from the main branch of cake by evolving into something so much greater? It all started by using standard household tea cups as measuring cups, an astounding and logical improvement from the old way of weighing ingredients. Also at that time cakes were decadent and were clearly a delicacy of a dessert, yet they were hard to make for the common folk to make without burning or ruining and it was then that the cupcake was born. By making a small cake in measured out, set cups, one could make a small cake that was easier to manage, carry, and make quickly. Eventually by using oil in the recipe cupcakes became even more popular, and since then have become a staple in our diet, with no one complaining, and a food as cherished as much, if not more, than any other we have today.
Better than Cake
Now that you know how the modern cupcake came to be you can start to understand its greatness. You may have also come to realize that cake was once the talk of the town. What gave the cupcake the edge over cake? Well take a gander at this list and you tell me.
Cupcakes' advantages over Cakes:
Can be put in several sized cups, can be baked in large amounts at one time, makes a person feel like an individual with their own unique cupcake, is typically sweeter and tastier than cake, can be uniquely decorated, better for small birthdays and dieters who want to celebrate, no need to be sliced, is handheld so there is no need for forks, knives, spoons, plates, or serving utensils, is usually tastier than cake, cakes don't usually have sprinkles, cake is harder to store and manage, and any cake recipe can usually be made into cupcakes with just a little tweak and originality. There is also a cake called "Devil's Food Cake;" would you feel safe feeding that to people and having them lead good lives afterwards? No, no you would not, and even if you had the urge to sin you could just make it into a sinful cupcake. Case closed.
Cakes' advantages over Cupcakes:
You could stack white cupcakes on top of one another for a wedding but its not the same as a wedding cake. Cake is also considered more regal and high class, but by taking a look at the picture posted I would say that that's clearly a vast cake based conspiracy.
Muffins, Cupcakes' Friend or Foe?
Now that you clearly see the advantages of eating cupcakes rather than other desserts like cake, there is one more issue you have to address - what to do about muffins. Are they as good as cupcakes or just cake in disguise trying to fool the masses? Well take a look at their character traits and be the judge. Muffins are typically as small as a cupcakes and located in a similar cup, they usually look like cupcakes without their frosting, they are typically more nutritious, which means less delicious, with more raw natural ingredients like berries, nuts, and other fruits. Also, muffins can usually be spotted with coffee, as most people think they go well together.
The two items of food are similar but a muffin is clearly the inferior baked good. Cupcakes are usually sweeter and tastier with more colors which gives the impression of chomping into the rainbow itself, and after you finish licking your lips and fingers from the cupcake you can sit with serene pleasure and reflect on the food you just engorged yourself upon. A muffin will not deliver such an experience. So due to its similarities we can rule that a muffin is better than cake but not as good as a cupcake.
