Eating Low Sodium for Kidney and Heart Health

Low Sodium Tuna & Dill Sandwich

Our family loves eating tuna dill sandwiches. One fantastic low sodium combination we have found that keeps our heart and kidney conditions happy is to use Crown Prince Albacore on Gluten-Free Pantry Sandwich Bread, with a bit of Spectrum Naturals Organic Mayonnaise and dried dill from our garden. It makes a high protein, low sodium meal that is tasty and quick suiting our busy lifestyles. It's also something we can feed to their dad when he comes over, since he follows a kosher diet.

My youngest (Little DAC) prefers adding a bit of celery sliced thin to his sandwiches and skipping the dill. He is a huge bagel lover, so instead of sandwich bread, he sometimes requests Lender's bagels. Fortunately, other than dairy free due to lactose intolerance, Little DAC's health is pretty good. No doubt because he is already following our heart and kidney smart diets.

Our family has been involved with The NephCure Foundation since 1994, when we decided to open open a Michigan Chapter. Our invovlement stemmed from my son's diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome at age two, and later of FSGS.
