The Twelve Days of Christmas by Brian Wildsmith. Wildsmith's loyal following will love this edition of his version of the traditional carol. Bold colors trumpet the lyrics through the pages with loud notes.
Mother Goose for Christmas by William Pene Du Bois. This charming modern classic opens in a storybook hamlet, home for Mother Goose. When it looks as if she's been kidnapped by two burly strangers, the villagers are up in arms. All ends well, of course, with a scrumptious holiday feast.
Auntie Claus by Elise Primavera. Sophie has often wondered about her unusual great-aunt, Auntie Claus. After all, Auntie Claus serves Christmas cookies all year long and her tree is always the best-decorated in the city. And then there's her annual "business trip," right around the holidays. This year Sophie is determined to get to the bottom of Auntie Claus's mysterious ways.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. Teachers take tranquilizers, and parents take pride in the annual Christmas pageant. This novella is a set-piece of humorous, small-town Americana.
Norman Rockwell's Christmas Book edited by Molly Rockwell. It's hard to beat a book whose list of "contributing" authors include Lewis Carroll, Louis May Alcott, Charles Dickens, Langston Hughes, Mark Twain, Saki, Laura Ingalls Wilder and Shakespeare! It's an album of old favorites, accompanied by those mesmerizing Rockwell pictures, a bit schmaltzy perhaps, but ultimately wonderful.
