maui.jpgMaui Wow-eee. Drive the Hana Coast

Locals call it the most beautiful drive in the world -- and I am pretty sure they are right. If you're in Maui, you have to take the time to drive it!

Wow-eee in Maui -- The Hana Coast is beautiful!

Nothing’s better than Maui, no way no how. And whatever brings you to Maui – the brown-sugar sand, the whale-watching, or the windsurfing – make sure you take a half-day to drive the Hana Coast, called, for good reason, “The World’s Most Beautiful Drive.”

It may be Maui’s most popular visitor’s activity. The Hana Coast drive follows a scenic way that passes spectacular waterfalls, sparkling freshwater pools, hiking trails, and the plushest, most luxurious tropical foliage you can imagine! All the sights and sounds of Hawaii can be found along Maui’s Hana Coast.

The drive begins in Kahului and follows the Hana Highway, route 36, east past green fields ripe thick with sugar can. As you pass Ho’okipa Beach – popular with windsurfers – and turn inland from Maliko Bay, the drive truly begins, taking you past extraordinary sights, plush scenery, exotic plants, rich rainforest vegetation and breathtaking views of slender waterfalls and treacherous coastline. Along the way you’ll pass Valley Isle Memorial Park, Twin Falls, Waikamoi Ridge, and Kaumahina State Wayside Park

The road is windy and can be slow, but well worth the time it takes to drive. A typical trip ends in the sleepy town of Hana on a beautiful eastward-facing bay. From there, it is only a short 30-minute or so drive to Haleakala National Park. Either way, the entire round-trip journey can be made in about six hours or so. But you’re sure to see so many places to stop an explore, or simply sit and stare, so give yourself some extra time.

You’ll be glad you did.
